Terrorist Roles, Tactics, and Force Multipliers

Terrorists have advanced their tactics and approaches to terrorism. Although nations are working on methods of tightening their security in order to protect their resources and people against terror, domestic and international terrorism is still on the rise. This poses a great threat to the economic and industrial development and growth to the countries. Therefore, the governments (through their security agencies) are heavily invested in security. Terrorists have advanced their tactics and forces being aware of the intensified technological advancements employed by the host nations in attempting to protect their resources. This includes feminism, force multiplier, use of media and technology as some of the modern tactics (White, 2012).

Force multipliers are “methods that allow an increase of striking power without increasing the number of combats troops in military” (White, 2012). This implies that terrorists try to deploy tactics with the ability to cause catastrophic damage to their targets with little damage to their members. The specific force multipliers commonly used by terrorists include technologically enhanced weapons of mass destruction, media coverage, religious fanaticism, and transnational support, which increase their striking powers (White, 2012) and hence causing massive destructions.  Some might wonder: why do terrorists go these miles by using the above mentioned multiplier forces just for a single bombing? The answer lies in technologically advanced securities. Notwithstanding it is the most common terrorist tactic, other methods advanced by terrorists include hijacking, assaults, kidnapping, arson, and hostage taking.

One of the force multipliers that is gaining popularity among terrorists is the religion, which instills panic in the public at large and creates an opportunity for passing political messages. Through religion, terrorists rife the opportunities for perpetuating fear and add recruits to their squad. After the recruitment excise is accomplished, the new recruits (through conscription) sacrifice themselves (White, 2012). Religion is perceived as a fearsome multiplier which accelerates fanatical terror attacks (like the September 11, 2001). However, in my opinion, the system of belief and worship serves as the medium of passing political messages. Using this faith institution the terrorist get willing recruits whose role is to propagate panic and fear.

Media is another force multiplier, which influences terror organizations by making such groups consider themselves as the most politically reserved and powerful outfits. To communicate their supremacy to other terrorist associations and to the world at large this method is used by terrorist. "We against them" (the message which comes from the media) is an indication of materialization of comradeship which is accompanied by other forms disruptive behavior (White, 2012). Terrorists use media to communicate their mission and agenda to divert attention from all imminent attacks (White, 2012).

Members of the analyzed groups depend on technology that helps them speed up their activities and evade authorities. Applying technology, terrorists manufacture sophisticated military weapons and hardware of mass murder and vast destruction. They have developed remote command systems, supervision kits, and camera controllers which are helpful in administering the squads and carrying out attacks. In addition to these weapons, women (who are socially perceived as weak and innocent) have been recruited by the terrorists as servitudes and terrorists. This helps strengthen their operations as the concept of feminism still lives with us today. Finally, through transnational support, terrorists are able to execute attacks and receive financial support, which in my opinion serves as the route to growth in terrorism (White, 2012).

In conclusion, the act of terrorism is not only a domestic challenge but also an international threat to national security. Force multipliers used by these groups increase the severity of attacks as well as causing massive destruction to the mankind. Since terrorists advance their tactics to terror to evade authorities, concerned authorities should also advance their approach to combating terrorism and protect their people by enlarged resource investments in national protection and security.
