Effectiveness of the Report's Channel of Communication

Nowadays, business communication is one of the most important ways to succeed. The person who can accurately organize his thoughts is appreciated everywhere. I want in my essay to analyze the effectiveness of the channel of communication on the example of  BHP BILLITON EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT REPORT FOR THE QUARTER ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2012.


First of all, it is necessary to clarify the meaning of the “channel of communication”. “The channel is how a message or messages travel between source and receiver.” (McLean, 2005, 10) Written channels include newspapers, memorandums, invoices, magazine articles, reports, and so forth.  To test the effectiveness of this channel, it is essential to analyze it according to the following rules.

The first one is a correct written outline. There has to be a list of the company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and Statistical Analysis Software in graphs and charts. Everything from this list is cleared up in the chosen report. Moreover, it also provides information on the company’s master vision.

The second one is a correct organized structure, which includes an introduction, supporting details, and conclusion. If we take into consideration the chosen report, it should be noted that in general, it has a well-organized structure. In addition, its paragraphs are written properly and are focused only on one or two major issues.

On the other hand, there are some drawbacks to the structure. There is no conclusion, which sums up achieved goals, profits, company strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

It is essential also to put stress on the future company’s objectives to show the company’s way of development and clarify its perspectives.

To sum up, business analysis reports are very important documents. It is important to organize them in the proper way to provide an effective channel of communication, which influences the formation of a long-lasting conclusion about the company.
