How diversity makes us better at what we do

The Scott page seminar on “How diversity makes us better at what we do” tries to reveal the way incorporating diversity in problem solving or even in work environment can be useful, since the different people present will be able to contribute something or some part to a common achievement. The issue of human capital or rather human resource is widely evident throughout the talk show as the speaker tries to show the way diversity in the work place increases ultimo productivity as well as economic usefulness. Needless to say the issue seems to be interesting presuming that just mere employment of diversity would definitely lead to work efficiency. The diversity which the page defines basically captures the perception and heuristic part, and it should be present in each group to ensure that the concept of diversity works.

For instance, Page came up with an idea of explaining the evident diversity in a group , but he comes up with an ambiguous explanation towards a group of people who seem to produce the same response even though there is diversity in the group. Generally, being at classes, I like participating in group discussions simply because discussions bring out diverse perspectives, which usually lead to finding the more prospective solution to certain problems. I also tend to join groups, which compose of moderate students as they are likely to know the art of problem solving but unfortunately I haven’t yet witnessed a situation whereby all the students in the group have the similar response because the art of diversity is to have different views or rather perspectives towards a specific problem.

Nevertheless, the narrator seems to narrow on the concept of diversity towards economic productivity through giving out questions and expecting to get only one distinct answer but in problem solving, there props up several views from each participant and these responses may turn out to be correct with respect to the problem at hand. For instance, open-ended questions usually require several approaches in solving them; therefore, in such circumstances the diversity in the group helps in coming up with the best solutions suited for the given problem. Taking such situations as those with a firm into account, the diversity would come in handy and bring out each person’s uniqueness in dealing with issues, thus becoming useful assets of the company or rather group.

On The Vagina Monologues

The different shows and plays we come across through television or theatres form unforgettable mental pictures in our brains. The play which I attended entitled “the vagina monologues” was accompanied by all sorts of surprise, frustrations, joys, and even sorrow through the stories, narrated by the performers in the show. Narrating stories or rather incidents basically require the narrator to take up the mood and ambient of the story, and amplify it as his/her own. In this case people who are receiving or listening to the narrative would definitely feel the theme behind the story.

Many people have been wondering about the way the show actors take up certain roles and presumably deliver them as their own. For instance, it’s highly likely that all performers in a show had experienced rape or sexual abuse but all of them were able to take up these roles and bring them out as if they had experienced any of the vices they were representing. Narration is all about coming across a piece of story and then, after reading, it develops feelings depending on the mood of the work, and this is fostered in the mind and through such manifestations the actors were able to deliver the expected characters ,which seemed to be close to real in a brilliant way. A human brain is able to take up words and mould them in such a way that the specific characters which encompass the words are expressed outwardly in “the vagina monologues” show. By means of such stories and narration of the performers, the audience was able to capture the theme of the show and integrate it in their brains; this came out as the issue of condemning sexual abuse in the society. Moreover, the show also created awareness towards the fight against sexual abuse.
