Nursing Problem

Introduction

In the current world the issue of nursing is seen as a challenge due to the many requirements in the attention of the patient. With the developing world, a lot of diseases causing micro-organisms are mutating and is means an over all resulting in the diversity of the diseases. This the calls for the  improvement of the medication and also the training of the medics and nurses at large without forgetting the improvement in the hospital set up and equipping so us to perfectly cater for the large population that is exposed to the world of diseases (Parsons 27). There are many challenges that are experienced in the health care centre.  In this work the problem of meeting the patients’ needs is discussed as a major one in nursing. This was done in several selected hospitals through critical analysis and appraisal as given by the Joanna Briggs institute.

Failure in meeting the Patients’ expectations

In many hospitals and other health care centre the above constitute one of the major problems. This represents a scenario where by the patients in a given hospital do not satisfactory get the services that are dully needed for their well being while in the hospital (Ackley and Ladwig 129). This applies both for the out patients and also the admitted ones. The problems that are associated of major concern include Insufficient drug supply to the patients, fewer number of nurse attendants, fewer bed capacity and slow serving process amongst others.

Methodology

The assessment was done in four hospitals in one region. The reason as to why only one region was chosen is because of the high travelling expenses if the assessment were to be extended to far places. The other reason is because the data collection was just for a general deduction and not for publication (Gulanick and Myers 108). In all the hospitals that were assessed., there was data sheet prepared having the following questions; The number of workers in the hospital, the number of wards in the hospital, the number of medical officers in the hospital, the type and variety of drugs available, food type and the feeding criterion that is adopted in the hospital and lastly the degree of public relation in the hospital. These questions were posed to various individuals that are in the hospital namely; Doctors, Nurses, Lab Technicians, the casual workers and also the patients. Each question was awarded marks depending on how well the question was answered. The criterion for awarding of the marks was in line with the Joanna Briggs institute guidelines. Then the data sheet was examined to draw the overall conclusion, solution and recommendation of the study.

Literature Review

In many hospitals all over the world, the issue of the patients care is of concern. According to the journal known as A guide  to accessing Telecommunications, accessed in 2008 by institute of medicine, Washington DC ,efficient communication and transport is lacking in most of the hospital and this is a major challenge in drug delivery to the patients hence the needs of the patients are not met  to satisfaction. In many of the Journals that are contributed to  by  Joanna Briggs  Institute, there are many guidelines that should be followed to ensure that there is  good care taking in the hospital such that all the patients are getting what they need as it pertains to the medical care. The article of the Evidence-Based Nursing from the nursing journal viewed in 2008 by Judith Myers and Meg Gulanick also gives clearly the criterion that is supposed to be followed in order to carry out a good research as it pertains to the hospital problems. In this article the author gives a four initials procedure that will assist a person to carry out the research perfectly (Parsons 98). This was strictly followed when this work was done. The four initials are; PICO where P stands for the patients’ population, I stand for the potential intervention or area of interest C stands for any comparison intervention or control and finally O stands for the desired outcome (Lundy and Janes 18). According to the journal by Royle, Joan, RN, MScN, & Blythe, Jennifer, PhD, MLS about nursing practice, the issue of the patients concerns being not tackled appropriately in the hospitals is a good reason for some of the deaths that occur in the hospitals. This is because a patient can be admitted in the hospital and stay for long time without getting any medication or even the medication itself is not sufficient as indicated.

Results and Conclusion

According to the analyzing criterion that was followed as directed by Joanna Briggs institute, the scores that each analyzed aspect got did not guarantee any of them to be an efficient service and hence this drew a conclusion that all the four hospitals that were visited were poor in the maintenance of the patients. This presents a big challenge in nursing ( Ackley and Ladwig 76). This is then a big role left to the management of all the hospitals to improve in aspects such as; to increase the number of medical officers and increase the drugs amongst others.

Recommendation /Possible solutions

The problems sighted above can be solved because they are basically human created .Some of the solutions to the problems are: The Government or the concerned institution should employ enough and competent hospital workers depending on the number of the patients that visit the hospital (Gulanick and Myers 125). All of workers including, the nurses, the doctors, the lab technicians and the casual laborers should be enough. There should be enough medication and also all the varieties of the medicines that are prescribed to the patients should be available. The hospital facilities should also be up to the standards and this should be certified by a recommended standardizing body. These facilities that need certification include; the wards, the washrooms and the treatment areas. Also the body concerned with the supervision of the medical practice in the country should regularly assess the hospital conditions to ascertain the recommended standards of the health care centers.
